Affinity Group Videos

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

We have just posted the video summaries of the affinity group sessions. We are currently collecting the notes from each group and will be posting them in the next week or so. Please feel free to start some discussions in the comments section. Some things that you might consider posting to get started are: additional notes and summaries from the group discussion, links (with commentary) to online resources and materials, questions to be considered by the group, and appropriate responses to questions posed by other group members. Those are just some initial ideas, but the space is yours to use, so be creative and keep that momentum going!

UPDATE: We’ve posted the notes that we have for the groups. If there are any additional notes that you’d like posted, please contact us and we’ll make them available!

Reflections and thanks

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Dear Conference Participants,

Thank you so much for attending the 2009 SIM Conference.  We always learn so much from you, and you have us already thinking about next year. Please be sure to provide us with feedback through the Survey Monkey link as soon as possible.

Your feedback on the Wednesday strands will be particularly useful in developing our plans for next year. Three of this year’s strands were led by SIM® Professional Developers, whom we called upon to lead the strand because of their depth of knowledge on the strand topics. Next, we asked Professional Development Leaders whether they would help to develop and participate in the strands and asked them to designate the strand upon which they would most like to collaborate. As you experienced, their involvement in the planning and delivery made for a spectacular day.

Thank you to Helen Barrier (who did double duty with the Wednesday strand and Friday’s brilliant Slide:ology Pecha-kucha), Candace Bixler, Kristina Braud, Gail Cheever, Beverly Colombo, Vicki Cotsworth, Barbara Duchardt, Barbara Ehren, Peggy Graving-Reyes, Ann Hoffman, Patty Kohler-Evans, Jerri Neduchal, Suzanne Robinson, Shari Schindele, Sue Woodruff, and Michael Faggella-Luby.  To each of you, leading the strand work meant giving up the freedom to attend a strand, but your voice was too important to miss. You are pure gold!

Strengthening your SIM Core session

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

If you are thinking about attending the Strengthening your SIM Core session here are some of the items we’ll be sharing and discussing together:

• Information about many of the current initiatives (i.e. Read 180, Understanding by Design, AVID, etc) and how PDers see them working with SIM

• Sara Prewett will share the latest from the National Center on RTI and we’ll talk about how different states and districts are working with CLC and RTI

• Don will be with us for part of the session to share info and talk with us to further strengthen our SIM core

• Jean will stop by for a discussion on data collection and the research

• A Share Fair of sorts where a number of folks will be sharing things such as use of videos, Powerpoints with a twist, organization systems and record keeping for SIM PDers, using Stratepedia, Moodle and more, and energizers and activities.

• Lots and lots of sharing!!!!
