Reflections and thanks

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Dear Conference Participants,

Thank you so much for attending the 2009 SIM Conference.  We always learn so much from you, and you have us already thinking about next year. Please be sure to provide us with feedback through the Survey Monkey link as soon as possible.

Your feedback on the Wednesday strands will be particularly useful in developing our plans for next year. Three of this year’s strands were led by SIM® Professional Developers, whom we called upon to lead the strand because of their depth of knowledge on the strand topics. Next, we asked Professional Development Leaders whether they would help to develop and participate in the strands and asked them to designate the strand upon which they would most like to collaborate. As you experienced, their involvement in the planning and delivery made for a spectacular day.

Thank you to Helen Barrier (who did double duty with the Wednesday strand and Friday’s brilliant Slide:ology Pecha-kucha), Candace Bixler, Kristina Braud, Gail Cheever, Beverly Colombo, Vicki Cotsworth, Barbara Duchardt, Barbara Ehren, Peggy Graving-Reyes, Ann Hoffman, Patty Kohler-Evans, Jerri Neduchal, Suzanne Robinson, Shari Schindele, Sue Woodruff, and Michael Faggella-Luby.  To each of you, leading the strand work meant giving up the freedom to attend a strand, but your voice was too important to miss. You are pure gold!

Welcome to the New 2009 SIM Conference Website

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Welcome! We have just launched the all new 2009 International SIM Conference website and we’re very excited about some new things happening at the conference this year.

The video that you see below is one that Mona and I watched last month when we took part in a global online conference. We loved this video because it captured a number of the rationales that we have been kicking around here during our SIM conference planning. We think that this will help you begin to get into our heads our reasons for remodeling this summer’s conference.

The video will take about 20 minutes of your time.

Here is a link to the ning site that contained the original video.

Rethinking SIM, literacy, and professional development

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Big changes are in store for the 2009 International SIM Conference.

The conference structure will have a new look; sessions will be longer, allowing more time to delve deeply into important topics; and participants will be encouraged to keep the conversations going long after the sessions end.

The impetus for these changes is two-fold: We’re responding to your requests for more time to immerse yourselves in the learning opportunities the conference offers, and we believe it’s essential to examine the changing literacy landscape as it relates to the professional development work we all do.
